Claudia is a 29-year old widow with four children: Myra (14), Laura (11), Modesto (9) and Juan (6). Her husband died just after Juanito was born six years ago. Claudia and Myra work in the fields as much as possible, some times even seven days a week. The boys, Modesto and Juan, were enrolled in the local school, but Laura – at age 11 – had never been to school. Something very special happened here at Welcome Home in July when a team of dental professionals came from Madera, CA, to hold a dental clinic at the WHO facility. It wasn’t just about the many, many people who were served by the team. When a missions team from Idaho, led by Bob and Ellie Turney, built a house for a family in the community of Zapata in early June 2006, they found that the 20-month old son, Hector, had been born with a club foot. When he should have been toddling about his home, he was only able to scoot or crawl on the ground. Ellie went back to Idaho with Hector on her mind. She was determined to find a physician who would consider examining Hector and perhaps doing corrective surgery. Read more...
